Hey friends,
This week’s Posidonia International Shipping Exhibition 2024 in Athens is over, but in case you missed it, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! Here’s a friendly rundown of the most exciting and relevant topics that were discussed at this year's event.
1. Sustainable Shipping
Sustainability was a major focus this year. Experts shared the latest advancements in eco-friendly technologies, including cleaner fuels, energy-efficient ship designs, and innovative waste management systems. The goal? To reduce the carbon footprint of the shipping industry and ensure a greener future for our oceans. No doubt, this is a key indicator of the sector’s direction in the middle term.
2. Digital Transformation
The shipping industry is embracing digitalization like never before. Talks on smart shipping solutions, including AI, blockchain, and IoT, showcased how these technologies can streamline operations, enhance safety, and improve supply chain transparency. Digital ports and autonomous ships were hot topics, with demonstrations of cutting-edge innovations that are set to revolutionize maritime logistics. Another key point, as we found in this year Breakbulk’s hot topics too.
3. Global Trade and Economics
Economic trends and global trade dynamics were extensively discussed, especially in the context of post-pandemic recovery. Experts analyzed the impacts of geopolitical tensions, shifting trade routes, and economic policies on the shipping industry. Strategies for navigating these challenges and capitalizing on new opportunities were shared, providing valuable insights for industry players.
4. Maritime Safety and Security
Ensuring the safety and security of maritime operations remains paramount. This year's event featured in-depth sessions on cybersecurity, piracy prevention, and crew welfare. New regulations and best practices for safeguarding ships and their crews were highlighted, emphasizing the importance of robust security measures in today’s interconnected world.
5. Innovation and Future Technologies
Innovation took center stage with a showcase of futuristic technologies. From hydrogen-powered vessels to advanced navigation systems, the exhibition presented a glimpse into the future of shipping. There were also discussions on how these technologies can be integrated into existing fleets to boost efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
6. Networking and Partnerships
Last but not least, Posidonia 2024 was a fantastic networking opportunity. Industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators from around the globe gathered to forge new partnerships and collaborations. The exchange of ideas and expertise underscored the event's role as a catalyst for growth and innovation in the maritime sector.
In summary, Posidonia International Shipping Exhibition 2024 was a vibrant mix of sustainability, digital transformation, economic insights, safety measures, and cutting-edge innovations. It was all about shaping a brighter, more efficient, and sustainable future for the shipping industry.
Have a great week!

Incoterms
Incoterms, short for International Commercial Terms, are standardized rules set by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). They define the responsibilities, costs, and risks involved in shipping goods from sellers to buyers.
Key Incoterms you should know
EXW (Ex Works)
Seller’s Responsibility: Provides goods at their premises.
Buyer’s Responsibility: Takes care of all costs and risks from the seller's location to the final destination.
FOB (Free on Board)
Seller’s Responsibility: Covers costs and risks until the goods are on board the shipping vessel.
Buyer’s Responsibility: Takes over once the goods are on board, covering all subsequent costs and risks.
CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight)
Seller’s Responsibility: Covers the cost of goods, insurance, and freight to the destination port.
Buyer’s Responsibility: Handles costs and risks once the goods reach the destination port.
DAP (Delivered at Place)
Seller’s Responsibility: Takes on all costs and risks until the goods are delivered to a specified place, ready for unloading.
Buyer’s Responsibility: Responsible for unloading costs and any further transport.
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid)
Seller’s Responsibility: Bears all costs and risks, including duties and taxes, until the goods are delivered to the buyer's location.
Buyer’s Responsibility: Simply receives the goods at their premises.
Choosing the Right Incoterm
Control: EXW and FOB offer more control to the buyer.
Risk Management: CIF and DAP provide more security for the buyer.
Cost Clarity: DDP covers all costs up to the buyer’s doorstep.
Incoterms help streamline international shipping, reduce risks, and clarify costs. Understanding them ensures smoother and more efficient trade operations.
❤️ Things I liked the most this week
App: “Loora” - First of all, let me make one thing clear: this isn't an ad, and I'm not getting paid to rave about this app. But after hearing glowing reviews from friends who've used it to sharpen their communication skills, I finally decided to give Loora, an AI-powered language learning app, a whirl this week. And let me tell you, I was blown away by what I found.
You can practice real-life or business conversations and get instant feedback to correct your pronunciation and grammar in real-time.
The app also improves pronunciation and accent thanks to its advanced technology.
You will expand your vocabulary by learning new words in relevant contexts, all within customized lessons tailored to your level and interests.
This app also boosts your confidence, especially if you are a shy person who is not confident speaking English in public or with others.
And last but not least, another feature I loved about the app is the metrics and insights it offers. If you are a data lover like me, Loora provides valuable metrics to track your progress:
Pronunciation Score: Measures the accuracy of your pronunciation.
Fluency Score: Assesses your speaking fluency and speed.
Vocabulary Usage: Tracks new words learned and used in conversations, and gives you an estimate of your vocabulary and its growth.
Grammar Accuracy: Monitors grammatical correctness over time.
Confidence Level: Analyzes improvements in speaking confidence.
I loved Loora, and it is a perfect example of how useful AI can be in the near future. It’s like having a personal English tutor available 24/7, making it a game-changer for professional communication. Give it a try and see the difference!
