They didn't own a single ship when they started. In 1861, a young broker in the Norwegian port town of Tønsberg was arranging cargo space and selling ship supplies, nothing more. Four years later, he bought a share in one sailing vessel.

165 years later, that broker's company runs one of the largest maritime networks on earth: over 21,000 employees, a presence in more than 2,200 ports worldwide. Same family name on the door the entire time.

Most companies don't make it to their 20th anniversary. This one is on its fifth generation.
